The position as researcher is within the Future Energy Center. The challenges due to the energy related emissions, increased energy demand and the fragile state of the global economy calls for rethinking global energy systems. Therefore, the research within the Future Energy Center focuses on renewable energy, energy efficiency and emission mitigation, as well as smarter modelling, optimization and management.

The Future Energy Center is one of Sweden's strongest environments in process optimization targeting the process industry and the energy sector. We develop innovative solutions and tools within the areas of energy, building and environmental engineering.

The Future Energy Center has good relationships with both companies and recognized national and international centers, including several Chinese universities. The profile comprises nine professors, a further fifteen senior researchers and more than forty graduate students.

Position description
The position as researcher includes research within an international research project, 'Negative emission technologies: Readiness assessment, policy instrument design, options for governance and dialogue (NET-RAPIDO)' with the overarching objective to create a clear understanding of opportunities, challenges and risks of negative emission reduction efforts based on an informed analysis and proper discussion amongst relevant stakeholders. The project is funded by the Swedish Energy Agency.

Primarily, the researcher will be engaged in research assessing major prospective negative emission technologies (NETs) through a multi-disciplinary approach including case studies in order to determine their technical maturity, GHG reduction costs and potential barriers for implementation. The research will include the mitigation contributions that can realistically be expected from NETs under relevant economic, social and environmental frameworks, in the time frame up to 2050.

The researcher will be required to interact with and contribute to research activities related to governance frameworks for NETs building on the Paris Agreement, including modalities and procedures for designing market mechanisms and the design of climate finance approaches and, furthermore, focusing on governance needs at the international level under the PA and discussion of possible guidelines for NETs, that draws on the best available scientific knowledge and stakeholder views.

Qualification requirements
The applicant should have a PhD degree in Chemical/energy engineering and/or policy, and the relevant academic skills. Experience working on the climate change mitigation technologies including CO2 capture and a research profile relevant to the field of bioenergy in an international environment is a strong merit.

To be qualified for the appointment, the applicant must have demonstrated strong motivation for research, good verbal and written communication skills in English and the ability to disseminate research findings.

Decisive importance is attached to personal suitability. We value the qualities that an even distribution of age and gender, as well as ethnic and cultural diversity, can contribute to the organization.
