RISE Mechanics Research is a section of slightly more than 50 persons working with solid and structural mechanics, as well as problems where assessments of mechanical performance, function and reliability are carried out on materials, structures and products of a wide variety. Our broadness allows us to conduct work and co-operate with universities, authorities, industries in many areas to solve problems of different sizes and complexity to strengthen the competitiveness of the Swedish industry and our built society towards a sustainable and safe future. RISE Mechanics Research is active in the fields of applied research, consulting, testing, standardisation and training.

About the position
We are looking for a researcher to be part of our group in structural engineering and infrastructure. The group focuses on projects coupled to building materials, components and structures. This includes expertise in geological materials, traditional and advanced construction materials, but also their combination in composite and hybrid structures. We are specifically looking for reinforcement in the area of steel construction with a structural engineering background. In addition, the position can touch upon the following fields: structural design, reliability, structural health monitoring, experimental work and modelling. The scope of the work can also be influenced by your specialist competence and research interests.

As a researcher in the group, you will be planning, organizing and executing various research projects, e.g. international, national and internal. Additionally, the role includes tasks such as communication with project partners, coordinating activities within RISE, reporting to financing bodies, dissemination etc. Further, you will be supporting other ongoing research projects and leading or actively participating in research proposal writing.

The location of the position is in Borås, Sweden. We have one of the largest experimental facilities in Sweden for R&D and commissions pertaining to material, structural mechanics and standardized testing. As part of RISE, we have access to unique experimental instrumentation, as well as the competence of experts from a wide range of different research areas.

Your professional profile
You are a structural engineer, PhD (or licentiate), with a profound knowledge in solid and structural mechanics. You are particularly familiar with steel constructions, Eurocodes and relevant product standards. You are experienced in R&D and project management. It is of merit to have industrial experience related to steel construction projects. Knowledge of and experience with other construction materials is strongly valued. The ability to work in the laboratory individually and as a part of a team are expected. You are accustomed to publishing results in research reports, in peer-reviewed journals and in conferences.

Your personal profile
You are accustomed to work independently, but you are also a good team player. You have excellent and professional communication skills (oral and writing) in both English and Swedish. If Swedish is not your native language, it is expected to acquire adequate Swedish proficiency. You are a curious researcher and embrace new challenges. You should have the initiative and ambition to lead projects and project teams. You prefer to work in a structured and organized setting, all while meeting deadlines and contributing to the development of our research environment.
