The Swedish Museum of Natural History is a government agency with a mandate to promote knowledge, research and interest in our world. It is a prominent research institution and Sweden's largest museum. For more than 200 years, the museum has been collecting specimens and data and conducting research on life on earth. The collections contain more than 11 million plants, animals, fungi, environmental samples, minerals and fossils. All research and knowledge are shared in the exhibitions, Cosmonova and in activities at the museum and digitally.

The Department of Geosciences (GEO) at the Swedish Museum of Natural History hosts the NordSIMS-Vegacenter research infrastructure: a Swedish national facility for microanalysis and micro-imaging in Earth, environmental and planetary science, which comprises a range of state-of-the-art analytical and support facilities. The center is equipped with SIMS, TIMS, MC-ICPMS, HR-ICPMS instruments, two laser ablation systems, a gas chromatograph (GC), SEMs, and other supporting facilities (http://www.nrm.se/en/forskningochsamlingar/geovetenskap.9000582.html).

The academic staff at GEO comprises an international team of research scientists who run externally funded projects and national and international collaborative research programs, manage and support infrastructure projects, and supervise researchers at PhD and post-doctoral level. Current research programs in isotope geochemistry are focused on crustal evolution, planetary sciences and low temperature geochemistry. The department also conducts mineralogical research and curates one of the major mineral collections in Europe.

WORK TASKS
The principle work tasks is to support the research being conducted at the NordSIMS laboratory and provide support to external users. Secondarily, to work on currently funded Somaliland and early Earth projects, including developing their own line of research in these projects.

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant must hold a PhD degree in geology, geochemistry or a closely related field. It 's a requirement to have experience in heavy mineral separation and sample preparation for microanalysis, sample characterisation by optical and scanning electron microscopy and operation of SIMS instrumentation and data processing. Good command of written and spoken English is essential.

The following aspects are considered meriting: ability to interpret diverse geochemical data sets and ability to write scientific reports in English.

The following personal characteristics are considered important: being punctual, willing to undertake tasks at short notice and having excellent collaborative skills.
