Job Description
We work together in tight and diverse teams to define and realize new capabilities for the mobile networks, which are used by billions of people worldwide. In our Network Architecture and Protocols Research Area we have the mission to develop and drive best-in-class procedures, protocols and architecture solutions for current and future mobile systems spanning the radio, core, and transport networks. More specifically, our Network Orchestration and Automation unit focuses on control, orchestration and AI-driven automation of 5G network functions, services and infrastructure resources to realize the vision of zero-touch operations and secure end-to-end performance.
As a researcher with us you will participate in advanced research project teams developing new concepts and solutions for 5G network and slice management. You will develop end-to-end control and automation solutions spanning virtualized network functions, radio systems, transport networks and distributed cloud. In this area you will innovate and invent new concepts and evaluate their feasibility and performance by implementing and demonstrating the concepts in our state-of-the-art tools, which include cloud native and high-performance testbeds as well as mobile network simulators. You will also work on real network data in close collaboration with business units, and see your innovations improve service quality and performance for people and things using our networks every day. You will protect your ideas in patents.
You, as the successful candidate for the role will:
Work in an international team of world-class researchers with different backgrounds and experiences and including some of the key authorities and thought leaders world-wide on mobile communication
Develop new concepts and solutions for network management and automated network operations
Make use of latest software technologies and AI methods to improve operational networksContribute to standardize new technology used by billions of people worldwide, e.g. in 3GPP, ETSI ZSM, ONAP.
Work in a software driven way, with software as part of concepts and/or as tool for validation/prototyping of concepts
Gain expertise in mobile systems, machine learning and state of the art software technologies, making you an attractive candidate also for other parts of the company, including possibilities for an international career

Your qualifications:
Master or PhD degree in Computer Science, Communications, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or similar technical field; newly graduated or with work experience. Experience in one or several of the following areas: network control & management, artificial intelligence applications in networking, cloud-native implementations, web technologies, and standardization work.
Your abilities:

Strong analytical skills, eagerness to find innovative solutions to complex problems.
Excellent software programming skills and a strong interest in realizing your ideas using cloud native implementations and web technologies.
Strong interest in AI/ML and network automation.
Experience in one or more of the following topics/techniques is a plus: deep neural networks, reinforcement learning, transfer and federated learning, multi-objective optimization, time series analysis, AI planning, explainable AI, etc.
Strong interest in software defined networks, network function virtualization, orchestration, and network control and management.
Strong interest in digital and wireless communications combined with in-depth understanding of cellular systems design is a plus.
Rich in initiative, creative, and with strong personal drive and commitment.
Excited to work in an environment where you cooperate closely in a diverse team, together striving to fulfil common targets.
Good in communication and finding it easy to express and demonstrate your findings and knowledge to others, orally as well as in writing.
