With this position, you get the chance to work in a very strong research environment. The topic is interdisciplinary and very active worldwide. It is an excellent opportunity to merit yourself for whatever future career you pursue.

Project description
Our group at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering works with chemically modified nanostructures for various applications. In this particular project we are interested in using polymer brushes to control molecular permeability of solid state nanopores. Besides offering the possibility to better understand the behavior of macromolecules and supramolecular interactions, the systems that we develop may be used as novel bioanalytical tools, providing new ways to separate and analyze biomolecules, possibly even at the single molecule level.

This broad project requires knowledge about advanced surface analysis techniques and organic chemistry synthesis. Your main task is to develop chemical modifications of solid-state nanostructures by organic synthesis, in particular surface-initiated polymerization. You will work closely together with PhD students and other postdocs in the same research group.

Please check this webpage for further information about the research activities: http://www.adahlin.com

Major responsibilities
Your duty as a researcher is to conduct research and present your results in written and oral forms. Although you must follow a project plan assigned to you, new ideas and "sidetracks" may also be possible to investigate. You are welcome to propose projects on your own. Note that no teaching duties apply, although you may act as advisor to undergraduate students performing projects.

Qualifications
You should have a PhD degree in a relevant research field. Good recommendations from your PhD supervisor are important. Previous experience with related techniques or on similar projects is meriting but not compulsory. A strong publication record is meriting but not a formal requirement either.

The starting date is flexible but we prefer that candidates can start as soon as possible.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement
but if you have an interest in learning Swedish, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of 360 days but does not exclude the possibility to apply for other positions at Chalmers afterwards.
