The Consumer Board division's innovation function, including Research Centre Karlstad, has a key role in developing new applications and solutions addressing well identified customer needs.
We are searching for a researcher to the Packaging Material Development team at our research center in Karlstad. The assignment is for up to 12 months.
Description
The Material Development unit develops new materials for packaging applications with special focus on cellulose based renewable materials to replace plastics and aluminum. The team also produces demonstrators of the developed materials in its potential applications. Members in the team are working in or managing projects within the whole scope of developing and introducing new material to the market. The team is also a key contact point for external R&D providers in the operational field as well as providing services to other Stora Enso units within the competences of the team.
Your task will be to develop new packaging materials and related production processes with special attention to cellulose based formulas for packaging components. You will also deepen the knowledge within the area bio-based barriers and related science used in packages made of new innovative raw materials, and barrier application technologies.
This task will include trails and technical support at research institutes, suppliers and customer production sites as well as specification and piloting of suitable products for the customers' application.
We are now in a stage of the project where we will take the next step in the development of the new materials with focus on development work and trials mostly in Europe as well in Karlstad, Sweden. You work in a team with members in Sweden and Finland all with a strong commitment to increase the use of renewable material in future packaging.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you need to have a strong interest in renewable materials and in the circular economy. The work is conducted in projects, so strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work in matrix organizations as well as communicating your findings is a necessity. You have an innovative attitude and find it natural and inspiring to develop and maintain a strong network within Stora Enso, with Stora Enso customers and with external R&D providers. Proficient English, both written and spoken and a willingness to travel are required. Additional languages are considered a merit.
You have at least MSc/Civil engineer in chemistry, mechanical engineering or chemical engineering combined with knowledge and experience of packaging material development. If you have experience of cellulose fiber forming or barriers material development, you are off to a flying start. It is a merit if you are familiar with production environment. With this said, we are also interested in someone without industry experience, as long as you have one of the mentioned degrees and proficiencies.
