The Department of Applied Information Technology provides education and research in communication and cognitive science with an interdisciplinary profile. The department is part of both Chalmers University of Technology as well as of the University of Gothenburg. The Division of Communication and Cognition is part of the department of Applied IT, which also hosts the SCCIIL (Swedish: SSKKII) Interdisciplinary center.

The department is now announcing a one-year research position in Social Signal Processing in the Division of Communication and Cognition, attached to the SCCIIL Center.

Communication and Cognitive science
Studies of communication focus on understanding human communication in a variety of relations, for example, interpersonal communication in families and other groups, in workplaces and in organizations, also considering the influence of intercultural communication, multimodal communication and communication technology. Studies of communication are located an interdisciplinary area in the intersection between the social sciences, the humanities and technology.

Cognitive science studies cognition and communication in humans, animals and computers. The objects of study are artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, the evolution of cognition, language and communication, aspects of cognitive abilities like attention, memory, learning, consciousness, emotions, decision making and problem solving. The research areas are interdisciplinary between social science, natural science, medicine, technology and humanities

Job assignments

The position as researcher mainly requires own research and collaboration with other researchers at the Division of communication and cognition. The position includes full time research in the European Network of Excellence Social Signal Processing, which includes research on conflict, conflict escalation, conflict prevention and stances in social face-to-face interaction between humans and between humans and virtual agents.

Qualifications

PhD in communication, cognitive science or a closely related discipline with a focus on Social Signal Processing, obtained within five years from last application date. A proven track record is required with publications within peer reviewed international journals. The applicant should have research experience in communication and/or cognitive science, especially in Social Signal Processing.

4) a complete list of publications,
5) plans for future work, both scientific and educational, if appointed,
6) two reference persons who can be contacted by IT faculty (describe association with them and give their contact addresses),
7) A letter of application detailing your specific qualifications for the position
8) Publications:
• copies of the applicant's best scientific publications (not more than 10),
• copies of a maximum of 10 other publications (such as pedagogy, and popular science) in support of pedagogical and other merits.
