The Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology, SLU, is looking for a Researcher in plant cell biology. The department forms, together with the Department of Plant Physiology, Umeå University, Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC;
www.upsc.se), one of Europe's strongest research centres in experimental plant biology. Within UPSC, around 200 people are employed, including 30 research leaders. The research at UPSC is focused on plant biology and plant biotechnology, with research groups working on, for example, plant cell biology, plant molecular biology, ecophysiology and forest genetics.
Subject area
The Researcher will perform research within the subject area of plant cell biology, especially in relation to defence mechanisms in the root against pathogen attacks.
Duties:
UPSC is recruiting a junior researcher and group leader. The applicant is expected to develop his/her own research program within plant cell biology, and must show an excellent track record of publications and research experience. The applicant will work in close collaboration with researchers within UPSC and participate in research collaborations, e.g. within the UPSC Competence Centre for Forest Biotechnology (

To qualify for employment, you should have obtained a doctorate degree in plant molecular biology, cell biology or equivalent subject area. Particular importance will be given to scientific skills in the areas of cell biology and root development. Experience of research environments outside of SLU, equivalent to a post-doctoral period, or a PhD degree from another university is required. Good ability to communicate in written and spoken English is also required.
Assessment criteria
On consideration for appointment as Researcher, emphasis is primarily put on qualitative indicators of the applicant's academic skills and the ability for national and international research collaboration. Importance will also be given to communicative ability, as well as documented ability to attract external research funding.
