Subject area
The position is in Mechanical Engineering, within the research group of Digitalized product and production development.
Background
The position is funded by:
• Funding awarded from the Vice-Chancellor to Professor Magnus Löfstrand with the purpose of strengthening and internationalizing the research team Digitalized product and production development within mechanical engineering
• The research project Production Centred Maintenance (PCM) for real time predictive maintenance decision support to maximise production efficiency (Awarded to Prof. Magnus Löfstrand from the Swedish Knowledge Foundation)
• The research project A digital twin to support sustainable and available production as a service (Awarded to Prof. Magnus Löfstrand from VINNOVA/Produktion 2030)
The successful candidate will be selected based on the evaluation of his or her possibility of contributing to the above projects, as defined in the assessment criteria below.
Duties and responsibilities
A researcher shall spend the main part of his or her working hours on research. The appointment may also include teaching, when there is a need within the organisation, to facilitate for the researcher to acquire qualifications for a teaching appointment at the University. The share of teaching may not exceed 20 per cent of a full-time post.
Knowledge of techniques for modelling and optimizing the reliability, maintainability and availability of complex systems is required such as fault trees, binary decision diagrams, statistical failure data analysis and meta-heuristic optimization algorithms. It is imperative that the applicant has experience in applying these techniques to the analysis of real systems.
The research will involve the development of a digital twin model of an engineering system from the mining industry, and the work will be done in collaboration with national and international researchers. The candidate should have an engineering or computer science background and have experience in building discrete event simulation (DES) models to analyze the availability and performance of complex production systems. Experience with developing DES models within major DES software tools and libraries is highly sought after, in particular with the two leading open-source frameworks - DESMO-J (Java) and SimPy (Python). The successful candidate should be competent at developing large software codes in an object-orientated programming language.
Eligibility
Those qualified for the appointment as a researcher are applicants who have obtained a doctoral degree or have a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree.
Assessment criteria
• The degree of experience related to the duties and responsibilities (See above) and experiences related to the on-going research projects partly funding the position.
• Good communication skills in English, in speech and in writing, is mandatory. Some knowledge of Swedish, and a willingness to learn more Swedish, is considered an advantage.
• International research experience.
• Great importance is also attached to suitability, that is, personal characteristics required to perform the duties and responsibilities at hand, to cooperate with other members of staff, and to contribute to the development of Örebro University's operations. The person we are looking for has good interpersonal and cooperative skills, power of initiative, an interest in development efforts, as well as an interest for a career within academia.
When filling this researcher position, focus will be on the candidates' research expertise. A requirement for employment is solid qualifications within reliability and maintainability modelling and prediction, and solid competence in an object-orientated programming language, preferably C# or Python, which should be demonstrated through the candidate's own research and corroborated by scientific publications. Candidates' research will also be assessed on their potential to strengthen the research area in Sweden. In addition to publication in scientific journals, national and international research collaborations and an interest in cooperating across disciplines are considered additional qualifications.
Information
The position as a Researcher is a fixed-term position of 2 years. The salary depends on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. Starting date is in March 2020 provided that the necessary decisions have been made.
