hela Sverige The trend in dairy production today is towards fewer but larger herds relying on decision-support systems based on automated recordings. Information from automated recordings can be used to improve decision making with respect to feeding, health, management, and breeding, but advanced analytical methods are required to fully utilize this information. The use of automated recordings falls within the emerging research field known as precision livestock farming ? PLF. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science at Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) is presently making a special effort to develop this area in the ?Beijer Laboratory for Animal Science", supported by the Beijer Foundation, and we are therefore recruiting a researcher for developing novel tools for managing dairy cows.

www.slu.se/lediga-tjansterArbetsuppgifter: Intelligent data analysis within Animal Science, including development of systems for integrating data from automated recordings as decision support for the optimization of production, health, and efficiency at both individual and group levels.
The holder of the position is expected to develop methods to integrate data from different sources, such as sensors and other automatic recordings. Based on these data, and on patterns of production, feed consumption, and behavior, models should be developed to predict, for example, health problems or heat. Detection models should enable individual cow management and production control of cows in large herds. Examples of potential modeling techniques are time-series analyses, multivariable correlation analyses and visual data analyses.
Kvalifikationer: The applicant must hold a doctorate, either in Biometry or in a relevant area of the Biological Sciences (e.g. Animal Science or Veterinary Medicine). If the applicant is from Biological Sciences, the candidate should also have proven thorough experience in multidimensional and/or multivariable/multivariate modeling of biological data.
The emphasis will be on indicators of academic skills. The assessment also includes evaluating the applicant's ability to develop an independent line of research within the research field. It is desirable that the applicant has experience in research corresponding to a post-doctoral period. Experience in tackling biological problems with an interdisciplinary approach, and having a broad international network within the subject, are merits.
