Project description
Environmental monitoring examines biogeochemistry in the free water mass. Biogeochemistry in this case means primary production, nutrients, salinity, temperature, chlorophyll, phytoplankton and zooplankton (including gelatinous plankton). Primary production is quantified by incubation of seawater with the addition of 14C. The results are used to monitor changes in primary production over time and together with data to investigate possible causes of the environmental changes.
Job assignments
This employment involves the planning and execution of environmental monitoring of the entire plankton ecosystem at three stations on the west coast.
Sampling will take place every week from a boat and involves collection and measurements of primary production and bacterial production. Some analyses includs radioactive work with various isotopes and chlorophyll analysis is included. The researcher must compile all the data in an annual report.
The employment
This is a fixed-term employment for 12 months, 20 %, starting as soon as possible or upon agreement.
Eligibility
To be eligible for employment as a researcher, the applicant must have a PhD exam in a relevant subject (Marine Ecology, Marine Biology or comparable). The exam must be finished before closing date for this announcement.
Assessments
Good knowledge in all practical parts of the program is required as well as experience in writing reports in English. Special emphasis will be placed on competence in environmental monitoring. Sampling is done from a boat, so a requirement is to be able to handle the boat and experience of field sampling.
