Position description
The School of Business, Society and Engineering is looking for a researcher in energy and environmental engineering. The position involves working within the research specialization Future Energy Center (FEC). The work is part of the research activities conducted for the project Characterizing major CO2 streams in BECCS, funded by the Swedish Energy Agency.

The purpose of the BECCS project is to characterize the compositions of the gas streams in the key processes of BECCS, which can change the properties of the CO2 streams, in order to under-stand the impacts caused by using biomass on the process design and performance and identify the differences from fossil fuel CO2 capture and storage (FECCS). The output will address the need of industries about understanding the qualitative and quantitative changes in the design and performance when FECCS technologies are applied for BECCS, and promote the development and application of BECCS.

The tasks include: 1) To characterize the flue gas in different industrial processes using biomass as feedstock, from which CO2 is captured and identify the difference from the flue gas in the fossil fuel based processes; 2) To evaluate the impacts of the identified characteristics of CO2 streams on the performance of key CO2 processes; and 3) To provide a guideline regarding the selection of BECCS technologies and identify knowledge gaps for the development of BECCS technologies.

The position is a temporary employment of 3 months at 100% scope.

Qualification requirements
Particular importance is attached to personal suitability. We value the qualities that even age and gender distribution, as well as ethnic and cultural diversity add. The applicant is required to have good knowledge about CO2 capture and storage (preferable to have done research in the area of CCS with publications), and hold an MSc degree and a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or Chemical Engineering. The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of Swedish is a significant advantage.

Decisive importance is attached to personal suitability. We value the qualities that an even distribution of age and gender, as well as ethnic and cultural diversity, can contribute to the organization.

Further qualifications and merits
You are open-minded and interested in collaborating across borders within and outside MDH. Teamwork, leadership, organizational and entrepreneurial skills are advantages.

Further merits for the position are:

• Experience in modelling different processes such as chemical absorption, power generation cycles
• Skills in using simulation tools, such as Aspen Plus
• Knowledge about property calculations, including thermodynamic properties and transport properties
• Skills in programming such as FORTRAN, Matlab etc.
• Ability to collaborate with other researchers as well as work independently.
• Curious, goal-oriented, flexible, ambitious, and communicative personality.
• Interest in developing methods and bringing them into different application areas
