Department of Wildlife, Fish, and Environmental Studies
The Department of Wildlife, Fish, and Environmental Studies, SLU, Umeå, is looking for a researcher in the project "Effects of antibiotics in the environment". The focus of the project is to study how antibiotics in aquatic systems affect fish gut microbiota and how these effects in turn affect fish behavior. The researcher will study how antibiotic exposure on the gut microbiome affects host metabolism, neurotransmission, behaviour, and cognition. Widespread dysbiosis in aquatic species could represent a serious yet largely unrecognised threat to life below water. It is thus essential that the environmental risk these antibiotic pollutants pose are evaluated.

Duties:
The researcher will mostly carry out research and development within the "effects of antibiotics in aquatic systems" framework. The main focus will be to study how antibiotic exposure on the gut microbiome affects host metabolism, neurotransmission, behaviour, and cognition. We encourage research that involves both stakeholders and other researchers (both internal and external). In addition, the researcher is expected to contribute to education by teaching courses and supervising thesis workers. Finally, the researcher is also expected to apply for both national and international research grants as well as actively communicate the science to society.

Qualifications:
The applicant should have very well developed skills in verbal and written communication in English. Prior successful collaborations with stakeholders or national and international researchers will be important for the position. We are looking for a highly motivated, independent, and team-oriented candidate with documented experience in either behavioral ecology, fish ecology and/or spatial ecology. Experience with livetrapping and caretaking of fish, active or passive transmitters as well as behavioral software will count as merits. Finally, a documented history of science communication will be a merit.
