The successful candidate will be responsible for comparative research on the microbiomes of insects within the context of a five-year research project in comparative insect biomics funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. The overall aim of the project is to use metabarcoding of Malaise trap and soil samples to study the size, origins, structure and function of the insect biomes in Sweden and on Madagascar. The project is a collaboration between the Swedish Museum of Natural History (Fredrik Ronquist), the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (Tomas Roslin), Stockholm University (Ayco Tack) and SciLifeLab / KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Anders Andersson). The field campaign in Madagascar will be organized in collaboration with the Madagascar Biodiversity Centrer (Brian Fisher, California Academy of Sciences).
The successful candidate will be expected to focus on research on insect microbiomes based on the material and data collected in the project. The candidate will be involved already in the planning phase of the project, and will be expected to help design the DNA extraction, sequencing, and bioinformatics pipelines together with thw procect leader and the Pls so that adequate data for insect microbiome research are generated. She or he will then be responsible for developing all aspects ot the research based on the microbiome data, in collaboration with the rest of the project staff and with external scientific collaborators.
Qualifications
We expect the successful candidate to have a strong research background with a PhD degree and postdoc experience within comparative studies of insect microbiomes based on genetic and genomic data. Emphasis will be put on the scientific promise and future potential of the candidate within this subject area.
Fluency in spoken and written English is essential. Given the size and complexity of the project, i is essential that the successful candidate is a good team player.

The Department of Bioinformatics and Genetics is focused on research in computational phylogenetics, population genetics and genomics. We run a DNA sequencing facility and host several national and international infrastructures.
