Subject area
The position is in chemistry.
Background
The Man Technology Environment Research Centre (MTM) at Örebro University focuses on applied research on chemical compounds of different origin in the environment and their relations to sustainable development.
Within MTM, we have established the Environmental Forensic (EnForce) Laboratory. It is a research effort funded by the Knowledge Foundation research profile program in collaboration with twelve partners from trade and industry. The main goal of EnForce is toxicant discovery and risk assessment in the PAC and PFAS groups. EnForce develops and applies advanced analytical methods including metabolomics, bioassay technologies, effect-directed analysis and hazard assessment of PACs, PFAS and microplastics.
Duties and responsibilities
The researcher will be a key person in EnForce. The main duty is to manage the PAC project in EnForce, involving twelve industrial partners. This includes project management, managing the bioassay laboratory and leading the application of novel bioassays and analytical methods for characterization, toxicant discovery and hazard assessment of complex mixtures of PACs. Particular emphasis is on development and application of GC/MS-based effect-directed analysis for elucidation of drivers of toxicity in the PAC group. Responsibilities also include supervision of students, teaching, and communication of research results with researchers and industrial partners.
Eligibility
Eligible for the appointment as researcher are applicants holding a doctoral degree in chemistry or in related subject areas, or have a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree.
Assessment criteria
Documented knowledge and experience in analytical organic chemistry towards PAC-analysis, bioanalysis with reporter gene assays, effect-directed analysis, mixture toxicology and independent management of complex multidisciplinary research projects is a requirement. Knowledge and skills in chemical and toxicological characterization of complex mixtures of toxicants in contaminated soil, dust and biological samples is a merit. The successful candidate should be creative, independent and analytically oriented with a solid theoretical background. Proficiency in written and spoken English is a requirement.
General assessment criteria include good interpersonal skills and an ability to cooperate as well as the ability and suitability required to perform the duties well and to contribute to the future development of the research conducted within the subject.
Information
The position as researcher is a full-time permanent position. The salary depends on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. Positions announced at Örebro University are, where appropriate, subject to a trial period.
