Subject area
The position is in Biology.
Background
We seek a researcher within the field of evolutionary genetics and evolutionary medicine, with special interest in sexually antagonistic patterns of natural selection in human and model organisms. Sexually antagonistic selection has become increasingly appreciated as an important concept in evolutionary biology as it is thought to play a role in the evolution of trait diversification between the sexes, the maintenance of genetic variation, and may even help explain the incidence of sex differences in diverse human disease phenotypes.
Duties and responsibilities
A researcher shall spend his or her working hours mainly on research. The appointment may also include teaching, when there is a need within the organisation, to facilitate the researcher to acquire qualifications for a teaching appointment at the University. The share of teaching may not exceed 20 per cent of a full-time post.
The primary task of the researcher is to design and select sites for gene editing, as well as laboratory based experiments of Darwinian fitness in the fruit-fly model, in collaboration with teams of researchers in the UK and Australia. The research also involves the design and implementation of systematic literature reviews and/or meta-analysis of published data.
Eligibility
Those qualified for the appointment as a researcher are applicants who have obtained a doctoral degree or have a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree.
Assessment criteria
The researcher should have a strong background in the field of sexual antagonism and evolutionary genetics. Special competence with using the Drosophila melanogaster lab model is essential. The candidate should have experience in carrying out systematic literature reviews and/or meta-analyses. A proven record of high quality publications and a strong track record of driving an independent research project are needed. The candidate should be able to demonstrate competence with handling data from published literature and genomic datasets as well as experience with modern statistical methods and programming (e.g. R). The duties require communicative skills, both in writing and in speech, in English.
We welcome personal skills and abilities such as an ability to cooperate, power of initiative, as well as an interest in course development and educational development work.
Information
The position as researcher is a 80% of full time fixed-term position of 6 months. The salary depends on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience.
