The Department of Economics at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) announces a vacancy as a researcher in the research group Agricultural and Food Economics. The position is mainly linked to an externally funded research project about how extreme weather events can drive changes in cropping practices in agriculture and how different cropping practices can impact the possibilities for agriculture to handle possible negative farm economic impacts from extreme weather events.
About the position
You will (1) actively contribute to the group's research themes, in particular a theme related to agricultures' adaptation to extreme weather events and economic impacts of these; (2) independently develop research that leads to publications in high-quality scientific journals, (3) apply for external research funding, and (4) participate in the supervision of doctoral students and students. You can also be expected to teach at all levels, within the group's research areas.
Your profile
Applicants should have a background in agricultural and food economics, or a similar background. We are looking for a highly motivated employee with a PhD degree and with several years of experience in independent scientific work after the dissertation: (1) who can work both independently and in a group, is used to taking own initiative; (2) who have documented experience of independent scientific work; (3) have documented research profiling agricultures' adaptation to extreme weather events and farm economy consequences liked to adaptation; (4) documented experience of interdisciplinary work; (5) documented ability to apply for and obtain external research funding as the main applicant; and (6) advanced skills related to econometric models to estimate causality using micro data. Very good knowledge of English (both oral and written) is necessary. It is advantageous to have knowledge of European agriculture and agriculture in developing countries. Great emphasis will be placed on personal merits.

In this context, the department of economics constitutes an important platform for research and education in business studies and economics. The teaching activities are centered around bachelor and master programs in business studies and economics. The research is based on four thematic areas, one of which is agricultural and food economics.
In the Agricultural and Food Economics research group, we are interested in production economics, consumer economics, agricultural and food policy and international trade. Our areas of interest contribute to the scientific literature in agricultural economics and related subject areas. We have well-developed interdisciplinary as well as cross- and multidisciplinary collaborations, e.g. with colleagues in plant ecology, technology, animal health and veterinary epidemiology. The group currently consists of approximately 20 staff members, including several doctoral students, postdocs, researchers and a professor.
