The research activities within the Department of Biology and Environmental Science include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology. The research project is a European Union ERAMin2 funded project for the use of microorganisms to extract and recover copper from chalcopyrite mineral. The project will use consortia of microorganisms to extract the copper using strategies developed to control the community composition during the large-scale, bioleaching process.
General requirements
To be qualified for the appointment, the candidate should possess a PhD in environmental microbiology/biotechnology.
Specific requirements refer to
• Experience of acidophile microbiology and explicitly biomining, cell culturing, 'omics' data analysis, knowledge on application of bioinformatics data processing pipelines, analytical chemistry, bioassays on cell-to-cell communication, and microscopy.
• High proficiency in written and spoken English.

Terms of employment
Employment and scope: 100 %, for five months. The employment is scheduled to start October 2, 2020, or as soon as the position can be filled.
