The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) is seeking a talented social science Researcher in the study area of Climate Change and Risk (CCR). The Researcher will produce high-quality research on climate-related security risks evolve and how they are interlinked and interact with different social, political and economic processes. The Researcher should have profound knowledge of the security risks posed by climate-related change and a demonstrated interest in policy relevant analysis. This post also involves support to SIPRI's Environment of Peace initiative, as well as a SIPRI-NUPI-led project, which provides information and analysis on climate-related security and development risks for Norway during its tenure on the UN Security Council.

The Researcher position

The primary responsibilities of the Researcher are to deliver high-quality research on climate-related security risks and to disseminate research findings. The Researcher will conduct research across the Climate Change and Risk (CCR) Programme's ongoing projects.



Tasks and responsilbilities

The Researcher is responsible for:

• Designing, conducting, and writing high-quality research;
• Communicating research findings through journal articles, research reports, policy briefs and other outlets - both written and orally;
• Preparing own proposals and contributing to proposals prepared by the cluster;
• Collaborating on issues related to climate-related security risks with other authors within SIPRI and external researchers when relevant;
• Mentoring junior staff, including promoting and disseminating their research;
• Taking part in the collective life of the Institute.



Requirements

The successful candidate will have the following experience and skills:

• A university degree or degrees, in disciplines and topics relevant to this post (e.g. political science, peace and conflict studies, social science, environment science) to a Master's degree or Doctoral degree standard;
• At least 2-3 years of experience as a Researcher initiating and carrying out research projects;
• A sound knowledge of climate-related security risks as well as the peace, development and security agenda;
• Strong knowledge of qualitative research methods;
• A proven ability to work and deliver in small teams;
• A mastery in both written and spoken English.



Contract period

Starting June 2021, or as soon as possible, the contract period will initially last for 2 years with possibility of extension. The post is full-time. The post requires that the candidate becomes a resident in Stockholm, Sweden by the time of employment. The salary package will be negotiated individually.
