The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them. The Institute is composed of the following five departments: . The Department of Infectious Diseases . The Department of Microbiology and Immunology . The Department of Pathology and Genetics . The Department of Clinical Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine . The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology At present, the institute has about 350 employees and approximately 290 million SEK in total assets.

Titel: Researcher

Beskrivning av arbetsuppgifter:
The main tasks include responsibility for the laboratory operation and completion of various projects within the research field of pediatric brain tumors. Our research aims to unravel the genetic changes that are capable of driving tumor development and progression, optimization and implementation of genetic markers in clinical diagnostics, and to improve the molecular classification of pediatric brain tumors. As a researcher in the group, you will be responsible for planning and realization of different projects, summarize results, write publication, and present our results at scientific meetings and conferences. You also assist the Principal Investigator (PI) with organizing, collecting, and managing biological material from surgery, database updates, writing applications, and planning of projects. We therefore assume that you can work independently, have good collaborative skills, and like to work in a team. The daily tasks mostly include laboratory work involving DNA/ RNA extraction and various genetic analysis, e.g. Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). You document your laboratory work and report the progress to PI and other members of the group. You take joint responsibility with other co-workers to keep cell cultures up and running for in vitro experiments, and assist with functional studies such as xCELLigence, Western blotting, Immunohistochemistry, etc. We work as a research team. In consultation with PI, you plan your daily work within the time frame and project budget. You are responsible for collating results and write reports, and also apply for your own research funding. Since the plans and priorities may change quickly, it is important that you are flexible and can reschedule and adapt to new projects within short notice.

Beskrivning av kvalifikationer:
You should have an MSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent and PhD in Medicine. As we publish our results in international journals, and has collaborations with health care and other research groups you should master both Swedish and English in speech and writing. You should have solid practical and theoretical knowledge in cell culture, in vitro experiments, tumor biology and genetics. Experience of the xCELLigence system, confocal microscopy, and Immunofluorescence is an advantage. Practical and theoretical experience of Next generation sequencing (NGS) using the IonTorrent technology is an advantage.Previous research within the area of pediatric cancer or neural tumors is desirable. We place high demand on independence, flexibility, accuracy and collaborative skills. Emphasis is placed on previous experience and personal suitability.
