Department of Biosystems and Technology
The Department of Biosystems and Technology teaches and conducts research within the area of agricultural science; the research of the Animal group focuses on the interaction between farm animals' and their surroundings, animal management, welfare and behaviour. The aim of the research is to generate new knowledge and improve the sustainability of the agricultural sector by improving the interaction between the animals and their housing environment both in conventional and organic production systems. Most of our research is conducted on-farm, meaning, the position as research technician will involve communication with farmers and their staff.

Duties:
As a research technician you will become part of the Animal group and involved in setting up and running experiments; your work assignments will include e.g.:

• communication with farmers and farm employees
• handling and installing technical equipment (video cameras, computers, measuring equipment, sensors etc.)
• on-farm scoring of e.g. animal behaviour, clinical condition of animals
• scoring of e.g. animal behaviour via video recordings
• entering and editing data in Excel

Qualifications:
The successful candidate should have a relevant education and/or experience within/from the agricultural sector and with an interest in research in animal environments, management and behaviour. You must be able to work independently, be interested in communicating with farmers, be flexible with respect to working hours and have license to drive a car. It is very important that you have good communication skills as you, in many of the studies, will be the SLU representative with the main contact with the participating farmers. Periodically parts of the working assignments will involve collecting data from video recordings and entering data into Excel, it is therefore also important that you enjoy routine assignments. You must be able to speak and write Swedish and English. It is an advantage if you have experience in research work and/or practical experience in farming and have technical experience (e.g. experience with video equipment, computers, electronics and electrical devices).
