Description
Within our Bioscience Department in the Cardiovascular iMed function in Mölndal, the Metabolism Disease Area Section is responsible for the discovery of new medicines for patients with diabetes and obesity. We are currently expanding our efforts in diabetic nephropathy, and we have a new position for a Team Leader that will lead, motivate and develop a team of in vivo scientists engaged in investigative pharmacology and assay prototyping with focus on diabetic nephropathy, but also metabolic and energy balance disturbances in type 2 diabetes and obesity. The Team will undertake work to support new target opportunities, target validation and mechanism of action studies. The Team Leader is expected to apply their expert knowledge in kidney disease and will champion and develop scientific ideas and concepts in this disease area, identify appropriate in vivo models and techniques, and provide expert advice to senior scientific leadership and project management on disease area, target biology, pharmacology and external opportunities. The successful candidate will work to increase the insight into renal disease mechanisms, improve the scientific capabilities within the team and drive the delivery of new project proposals and project progression to the clinic through science excellence in the study of metabolic disease.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities
Driving individual and team development.
Performing, supervising, evaluating, presenting and reporting in vivo pharmacological studies to assess the validity of target concepts and/or to understand mechanism of action of existing or new drugs.
Delivering against project needs through the engagement of team members and the use of appropriate techniques and in vivo models.
Identifying and promoting opportunities for external collaboration. Supporting external collaborations as required to ensure maximum value can be obtained. Interacting with the external scientific community through scientific meetings and contributing with publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Minimum Requirements
PhD in renal biology/physiology, or PhD in metabolism bioscience and post-doctoral experience in renal biology and/or diabetic nephropathy.
Demonstrated leadership experience and a genuine interest in people and their development.
Excellent communicator and a good motivator of team performance and development.
Excellent organizing skills with the ability to handle numerous simultaneous tasks.
