hela Sverige RESEARCH STAFF in Mass Spectrometry-based proteomics, PER 2016/270.
The Proteomics Core Facility is an open access facility organized within the Core Facilities, Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg,
www.cf.gu.se . The Facility is a biological mass spectrometry (MS) platform that provides scientific expertise and advanced instrumentations for high quality analysis and interpretation of data. The MS platform is part of the BIOMS infrastructure - a nationally distributed and by the Swedish Research Council supported, infrastructure for biological mass spectrometry.
The Proteomics Core Facility offers a wide range of proteomic analytical services as well as experimental design for identification, quantification and characterization of peptides and proteins using Orbitrap instruments interfaced with nano-LC systems to answer advanced biological questions on protein function, protein expression, post-translational modifications, protein interaction analysis, monitoring of biological processes, discovery and quantitation of biomarkers, etc.
Within the national BIOMS infrastructure our platform profile for the coming years is to set up the latest MS methodologies, earlier driven from a glycobiology research perspective, to offer access to the wider scientific community. Our concept is open- access and full scientific support to researchers and our key experts will be engaged in national projects in planning, methodological development, analysis and data evaluation.
The Proteomics Core Facility is now seeking two highly-motivated and enthusiastic MS specialists with strong background in MS-based proteomics.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities will include:
• Planning and performing user requested research projects in proteomics and MS, including literature searches, laboratory work
• Operation of the MS instruments ( Q-Exactive, Orbitrap Fusion Tribid, LTQ-Orbitrap Velos, Thermo Scientific) and nLCs (easy nLC II and 1200, Thermo Scientific)
• Data analysis and data interpretation (Proteome Discoverer, MaxQuant, Skyline)
A key focus of the position will be the efforts in planning and designing proteomic and MS experiments together with the scientific expectations of the platform users as well as evaluation of the proteomics results. The bioinformatics component of the proteomics pipeline is an important part of the work and to be able to integrate the proteomics data into biology and network analysis is crucial. The position also requires the implementation of new technological approaches, protocols and software relating to proteomics and MS.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are seeking two highly motivated scientists, preferable with a PhD and a documented strong background and relevant expertise in the field of proteomics and high accuracy MS, including quantitative studies and/ or post-translational modifications.
Experience working with Orbitrap mass spectrometers and nLC in the proteomic field is essential. The successful candidate must have extensive experience of MS data analysis and specific experience of Proteome Discoverer, MaxQuant and/or Skyline software packages. Experience of manual interpretation of MS spectra is highly desirable. Familiarity with TMT/iTRAQ and SILAC methods is an advantage. Excellent communication competence, team working and organizational skills together with strong interpersonal and service-minded skills are essential. We highly evaluate flexibility and ability to adapt to changes and a deeper understanding of academic research milieu.
