Chalmers is a leading university in industrial digitalisation, with strong international networks and projects. The division of Production Systems is looking for a highly motivated researcher to join us as a research specialist. We are a dynamic, diverse, and balanced team of around 30 researchers, teachers, PhD candidates, and support staff. Our Stena Industry Innovation Lab (SII Lab) provides the division with advanced lab facilities for experimentation and demonstration.

Information about the department
The Department of Industrial and Materials Science empowers people with knowledge and technical solutions for future industry in a sustainable society. Through excellent research, innovation, and education, we create future industrial value-chains. The main competencies at the department of Industrial and Materials Science are found in the areas of: Human-Technology Interaction | Form and Function | Modeling and Simulation | Product Development | Material | Production, and in the interaction between these areas. Our research develops the industrial process, from identified customer needs to finished products, to create added value. The multidisciplinary expertise and combination of skills throughout the whole value-chain distinguishes the department both nationally and internationally. We gather internationally prominent researchers, in dynamic and outstanding research environments, as well as in national and international research networks.

Job description
This research specialist position is within the field of industrial digitalisation, applied to smart and sustainable production systems. Specifically, you will perform research related to the Smart Maintenance Concept and its applications in manufacturing firms, including new sectors like battery manufacturing. You will work with industrial case studies, accessing real-world data and information to invent and evaluate maintenance solutions, combining high academic excellence with industrial value. This position provides opportunities to contribute to top-level empirical research studies using both qualitative and quantitative approaches.

Major responsibilities
As a research specialist, your work will primarily consist of developing and applying research methods within your area of expertise. Your research and development of new ideas will be performed in close collaboration with industry. We expect you to take an active role in the research community and in establishing national and international collaboration with other research groups. Additional work tasks may include supervision of PhD and MSc students and contributions to undergraduate teaching, in line with your own research interests, as well as utilization of your research, for example through popular science presentations and upskilling initiatives.

We expect you to take a leading role in research projects developing and applying methods within the field of Smart Maintenance. As a research specialist, you are expected to generate new research ideas within the field and to contribute to the realization of these ideas, together with partners from industry and academia as well as through supporting development of research project proposals and funding applications. We are looking for a researcher with a high scholarly level and experience from both quantitative and qualitative studies. Your experiences will contribute to research studies at Chalmers as well as to international networks and publishing mechanisms, e.g. journal reviewing. You are expected to publish your work in high-impact journals and to inspire and assist manufacturing companies in their adoption of Smart Maintenance.

Contract terms
This is a permanent employment.

Qualifications
The position requires a PhD degree in manufacturing-oriented research, preferably with focus on concepts like Smart Maintenance, Asset Management or similar areas. You have a strong publication record proving research excellence in relevant areas. You also have experience in managing or co-managing research projects and have previously participated in applying for research funding. Experience in planning and leading research studies, using both qualitative and quantitative methods, is highly desirable. The positions require full professional proficiency in English. You will also need to acquire Swedish proficiency within 2 years. Experience from multi-stakeholder interactions and industry experience are meritorious.
