The project is a collaborative initiative between several academic platforms, providing an excellent research milieu.
Job description
The position is part of the research group of PI professor Anna Karlsson-Bengtsson at the division of Chemical Biology, Department of LIFE. The Chemical Biology division is the home of seven research groups. We combine and develop protein engineering, synthetic chemistry and state-of-the-art biophysical methos (spectroscopy, live-cell imaging and nanotechnology) to address cutting edge questions in biology to meet medical challenges related to human health. Our joint expertise is strategic and spans from molecular biophysics of single molecules to cell and organism biology.
The research of Anna Karlsson-Bengtsson 's group focuses on the inflammatory process and the most important white blood cells of innate immunity, the neutrophils. Using a basic scientific approach, the interaction between neutrophil sugar structures and lectins with potentially immunoregulatory functions, such as galectins, is investigated. Translational studies of blood cells from children with autoinflammatory diseases then transfer hypotheses and questions to the clinical reality. The long-term purpuse is to be able to influence, at the molecular level, the inflammatory process in chronically or acutely ill persons.
The position targets a senior researcher with expressed and documented interest in and knowledge of experimental research in glycobiology and innate immunity that can contribute to management and expansion of the Karlsson-Bengtssons group.
Major responsibilities
Your major responsibilities is to plan, perform and analyze experimental work within ongoing described project(s) as well as producing good quality research to be reported in scientific journals and at conferences. You are expected to be able to communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing in English. You are also expected to take active part and in building and maintaining collaborative links with members of the research team in-house as well as with external partners. You will also be responsible for developing new methods, models and research directions and take shared responsibility for maintaining the laboratory. You will have an expert role in the mass spectrometry field, with special focus on glycoanalysis.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have a PhD level degree in a relevant field, e.g. Biotechnology or Immunobiology with a strong background in the field of immunobiology and inflammation-related research as well as expert knowledge in mass spectrometry, including analysis of glycans as well as glycopeptides. You must have the ability to independently formulate research questions and perform all the research tasks that are expected by a independent researcher working within a larger research group.
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
Contract terms
