hela Sverige Under the supervision of Senior Scientists, the research associate will be responsible for the production and characterization of consistently high quality differentiated cells using standard operating protocols and development of a cell therapy product.
Key Responsibilities
Lead efforts in bioprocess development with particular focus on efficient expansion of
• Lead efforts in bioprocess development, with particular focus on the efficient expansion of adherent and non-adherent cells (e.g. stem cells) in cell culture bioreactors
• Conduct insightful studies to improve the yield (biogenesis) and/or potency of therapeutically-relevant cardiac progenitor cells
• Lead cell line development activities for the purpose of producing therapeutically-relevant cardiac progenitor cells
• Complete bioprocess workflows for production of cardiac progenitor cell therapy.
• Identify process gaps, and develop in-process and end-of-process analytical methods for evaluating product quality
• Participate in tech transfer of methods to external research or manufacturing organizations as needed
• Author, review, and/or approve protocols for the production of cell and cell-based materials
• Author and/or review scientific manuscripts and regulatory submissions
• Regularly present and discuss data with laboratory staff, program leaders, and senior management as needed
• Manage external relationships (CRO, CMO, academic, industry, government) pertaining to product R&D
• Indirectly manage small teams (2-4 staff members) for product development, including proof-of-concept experiments, scale-up studies, and production runs
Skills/Knowledge Required
• PhD in Cell/Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Biomanufacturing or related field with 2-5 years of relevant academic or post-graduate experience.
• Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Cell/Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Biomanufacturing or related field with 5-10 years of relevant experience
• 1-5 years of industry or academic experience in the development of biologics (cells, or cell-derived products) for therapeutic use
• 1-5 years of experience with operating cell culture bioreactors
• High level of experience with cell culture and cell- based assays (ELISA, FACS, immunofluorescence)
• Experience with stem cell culture, scale up, harvesting, and cryopreservation
• Demonstrated excellence in planning, executing, and analyzing experiments
• Able to troubleshoot, solve difficult problems, and develop process improvements
• Attention to detail and careful record -keeping
• Ability to quantify experimental results and present to the group using PowerPoint slides
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to write technical reports and protocols
• Flexible team player excited to collaborate with internal and external partners
• Highly self- motivated and goal -oriented
• Flexibility in working schedule to accommodate weekend work
• Authorized to legally work in Sweden
Preferred qualifications:
• Experience with suspension culture or large -scale (bioreactor) culture
• Experience in a GMP manufacturing environment
• Experience with assay development
• Previous experience and knowledge of cardiovascular biology
• Prior industrial experience in cell culture process development
