We are looking for a Research Scientist to join our team. Our Sample Management (SM) team is responsible for the storage and timely supply of chemical compounds to AstraZeneca's research projects. Compound samples - ranging from small molecules to larger modalities like proteins - are supplied to projects both in solid and liquid format with focus on using highly automated systems. Our Gothenburg based scientists mainly support the local site, however we also partner with other sites to provide efficient support across AZ and partner organisations.
We work collaboratively to provide support within agreed service levels with a strong focus on our customers. We strive hard to understand what fits their needs and how to add value through our experience and capabilities.
Our facility and service are leading edge, now implementing fully acoustic sample handling workflows as the first company world-wide. To maintain this position, we actively seek ways to improve our process and exploit new technologies.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
In this position, you will get the opportunity to work in a dynamic and enthusiastic environment whilst delivering critical support to drug discovery projects. You are focused on supporting drug discovery projects by providing compounds in the requested format - assay ready plates, serially diluted mother plates, formulations and solids.
Continuous improvement is also a core activity, performed as individual and group projects within the local team and the global department.
As a Sample Management Research Scientist, you will be expected to act upon day-to-day issues that occur whilst processing samples and ensure business continuity. You will also run Sample Management development projects under the supervision of senior colleagues to ensure continuous improvement. Furthermore, you will ork as part of the team rotating between the following typical tasks:
* Processing of liquid samples on automated platforms
* Processing of solid samples
* Managing customer orders using specialized informatics systems
* Responding to customer queries via mail or telephone
* Interacting with other SM groups and collaborators to process global orders
Minimum requirements
We believe you have a BSc or MSc in Chemistry or a Bioscience discipline, alternatively a logistics background combined with previous experience from an instrument-oriented laboratory. Proven knowledge and experience (>1 year) of sample management in a current setting is a clear advantage.
Sample Management is a highly collaborative group working to tight delivery schedules and the ability to be comfortable working at a fast, goal-oriented pace with a team focussed attitude is therefore essential.
* Experience in operating integrated laboratory automation equipment
* Excellent communication skills with a proactive and service minded approach
* Ability to plan, perform and evaluate experiments to investigate improvement possibilities in a process
Desirable Requirements
* Experience with acoustic droplet ejection and low volume liquid handling technologies and their application to drug discovery
* Interest or experience in database querying, data analysis and/or computer programming
* Knowledge of the drug discovery process
