Are you a passionate and experienced molecular cell biologist with stem and primary cell experience? Would you like to combine your scientific skills & drive with the development of advanced cellular models to build target validation data packages to drive therapeutic development? We might have the position for you!

The Translational Genomics department at AstraZeneca is expanding and we have an exciting opportunity for a Research Scientist with a molecular cell biology background to join the Applied Stem Cell Sciences team at our vibrant R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden. You will be working alongside our stem cell scientists and disease areas specialists. Using your strong knowledge and experience in molecular biology, cell biology, and assay technologies you will have the opportunity to work with cutting edge cellular models of disease to validate various target hypothesis.

Be encouraged and supported to think creatively in our dynamic environment. Here we are free from fear of failure, free to ask the right questions and make bold decisions.

What you will do:
The role is focused on laboratory-based activities. Main responsibilities include culture of primary cells, differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), immortalized cell line engineering and using these model systems to validate novel targets and mechanisms using a variety of assay technologies.

In the daily work you will generate work-plans to agreed timelines to meet project objectives, including delivery of more than one agreed area of work in parallel. You will be responsible for designing and executing experiments to generate high quality and relevant data as well as delivering and presenting data and proposing next steps in support of target validation activities. Your knowledge and skills will be key to drive project delivery. You will also;

* Develop and support a number of cell culture models for different disease areas.
* Design and execute cell-based experiments to validate novel targets using tool compounds and gene editing approaches.
* Culture and differentiate human iPSC lines to physiologically-relevant cell types in 2D or 3D culture conditions.
* Perform molecular biology protocols in support of in-house quantitative PCR, digital PCR and NGS assays.

Essential in the role:

* BSc/MSc degree with significant experience in Cell biology, Molecular Biology, or Developmental Biology
* Experience with the culture of multiple mammalian cell types including primary cells and stable cell line generation.
* Hands on experience with quantitative assay development such as qRT-PCR, ELISA, Western blots and/or cell- based functional/ potency assays.
* Demonstrable experience with a variety of molecular biology techniques.

We also believe that you are a person with ability to build open and collaborative relationships, that enjoys working effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team. You work independently, take own initiatives and have a positive, goal oriented and problem-solving mindset.

Why AstraZeneca?
Our Gothenburg site is one of AstraZeneca's three strategic R&D centres. Here, you'll feel a global atmosphere in a multinational environment. Collaboration comes in all forms - across teams, functions, countries and even companies.
