Are you a curious scientist with knowledge of a wide range of in vitro methods? Do you enjoy working hands-on in the lab in collaboration with a great team to push the boundaries of science? If yes, this is the position for you!

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Research Scientist to join the Biochemical Assay Development team in the Discovery Biology department within BioPharmaceuticals R&D, Discovery Sciences at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The Biochemical Assay Development team is responsible for the generation of novel biochemical and cellular assays to support projects in the early phases of the drug discovery pipeline. This is an opportunity for you to join the group as a lab-based scientist and be a key member of the team, developing in vitro assays for screening and mechanism-of-action studies in support of drug discovery projects.

You will work within Discovery Sciences, part of AstraZeneca's BioPharmaceuticals organization, which focuses on scientific advances in established and emerging medicine formats and drug discovery technologies across therapeutic areas including Respiratory & Immunology (R&I), Cardiovascular, Renal & Metabolism (CVRM), Rare diseases and Neuroscience.

What you will do:
The successful candidate will take a scientific role in applying their understanding of biochemical methods and technologies, using both protein and cellular reagents to be applied on a range of biological targets, used for hit finding of different modalities.

The position is a lab-based role where you will work in a team to utilize your experience in assay development; independently designing, developing and validating biochemical assays for
implementation in drug discovery projects, while incorporating the views of others. In addition, you will work closely with others to help drive scientific development in the field.

Essentials in the role:

* BSc/MSc degree in Biology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry or a related discipline, with relevant experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
* A practical understanding of a wide range of biochemical assay methods and technologies, like luminescence, fluorescence and enzymatically coupled assays for enzyme activity reactions and competition displacement assays.

We also believe that the successful candidate is a highly engaged scientist who enjoys collaboration and team work, who holds experience of interacting and communicating efficiently across interfaces of functions, fields and expertise. This goes hand in hand with your problem-solving skills, knowledge of evaluation of complex data and strong delivery focus.

Desirable for the role:

* A practical understanding of assay optimization, including statistical tools such as factorial experimental design, to enable generation of robust, reproducible and sensitive assays.
