Description
Within our Bioscience Department in the Cardiovascular iMed function in Mölndal, the Metabolism Disease Area Section is responsible for the discovery of new medicines for patients with diabetes and obesity. We are currently expanding our efforts in diabetic nephropathy, and we have a new position for an in vivo researcher toplay a leading role in identifying new target opportunities and establishing in vivo models of diabetic nephropathy. The researcher is expected to apply their expert knowledge in renal biology and will champion and develop scientific ideas and concepts in this disease area. This involves providing expert advice to senior scientific leadership and project management on disease area, target biology, pharmacology and external opportunities. The researcher will be engaged in and lead laboratory activities including encouraging the development of less experienced scientists. The successful candidate will work in multidisciplinary teams to generate new project proposals and support project progression to the clinic through science excellence in the disease area.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities
Establishing existing and developing new in vivo models in diabetic nephropathy for testing novel compounds.
Performing, supervising, evaluating, presenting and reporting in vivo pharmacological studies to assess the validity of target concepts and/or to understand mechanism of action of new drugs.
Providing scientific leadership and mentorship for laboratory technicians and less experienced scientists.
Driving improvements in techniques that can be successfully applied to advance their departmental discipline.
Identifying external opportunities and novel approaches, relevant for the disease area, through literature, contacts, scientific meetings and interaction with the external scientific community. Contributing towards publications in peer reviewed journals.
Minimum requirements
PhD in renal biology/physiology, or PhD in metabolism bioscience and post-doctoral experience in renal biology and/or diabetic nephropathy.
Significant experience and excellent practical experimental skills in the development and use of animal models of kidney disease.
Thorough understanding of renal biology and assessment of renal function, supported by a good publication record in the field.
Preferred experience and capabilities
Previous working experience in drug discovery.
Experience of in vivo GFR measurements, surgical skills of nephrectomy or micropuncture techniques would be advantageous.
