SenzaGen is a spin out company from Lund University with expertise in immunology, technology and genomics. SenzaGen develops, markets, sells and performs in vitro sensitization test based on the GARD® platform. SenzaGen is a quality-orientated and innovative international company, that continuously strive to increase the scientific knowledge around our products in order to assure safe products without the need for animal testing.
The position will be placed at SenzaGen in Lund in close collaboration with the Department of Immunotechnology at LTH, Lund University.

Project description and main responsibilities
The project implies use and development of genetic biomarker signatures in combination with machine learning algorithms in order to identify and classify substances' sensitizing properties.
The work will be focused on the development of existing assays as well as new assays and will include bioinformatic techniques to study and evaluate gene expression, machine learning through pattern recognition techniques and analysis of different immunological readouts. A special focus will also be put on testing of complex mixtures as well as single substances. The main basis for the work is the GARD® platform that has been described in several publications (Johansson et al. BMC Genomics 2011, Forreryd et.al PLoS ONE 2015).
In this project we will use both techniques for transcriptional profiling including Affymetrix and Nanostring, cell biological assays like FACS and different statistical filtering, wrapper methods, and support vector machine (SVM).
A key component for the position is to bring new understanding to the complex process of sensitization and deeper knowledge regarding the different signalling pathways involved in skin and respiratory sensitization. The project will be run in collaboration with internal and external researchers in the field of immunotoxicity.

Qualification requirements
The position is appointed for the purpose of applied research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree, or an equivalent degree from another country, in a relevant field such as immunology, bioinformatics or genomics.
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills. The applicant should have experience in research in immunology, gene expression analysis and pattern recognition models. Experience in handling big data, development of bioinformatic methods and/or different machine learning techniques is wanted. If the applicant is familiar with the GARD® assay this is of high value.
The choice of candidate will be based on documented theoretical knowledge relevant to the area, knowledge of and experience in using of programs and theoretical methods, analytic ability, ability to work in group as well as independently and personal involvement.
