Institutionen för växtförädling
The Department of Plant Breeding teaches and performs strategic and applied research on horticultural and agricultural crops with the aim to provide knowledge, tools and products for a bio-based economy, improved environment and human health. In the plant breeding division, we use a wide range of both conventional and modern breeding technologies, ranging from field experiments and evaluation of genetic diversity to genetic, omics, biotechnological, biochemical and physiological approaches.

Duties:
You will initially work in a Nordic collaboration project between SLU and several Nordic research institutes and breeding companies. The work will mainly consist of analyzing large amounts of collected genotypic and phenotypic data and applying methods for association studies (GWAS) for diseases and other agronomic traits of spring wheat. Likewise, supervision of interns, students and some teaching will be part of the position. The work will include writing both in the form of articles and project applications as well as active participation in conferences and workshops.

Qualifications:
Qualifications: You are eligible to be admitted if you have obtained your doctorate and have at least four years of experience in research work in plant breeding, genetics, bioinformatics or the like as well as extensive experience in functional genomics and next-generation sequencing of cereals. You should be able to work both as part of a team and individually, organize work efficiently and prioritize workload. Great emphasis will be placed on your personal qualities, such as curiosity, accuracy, cooperativeness, initiative, and the ability to work independently.



Meritorious: Previous experience/knowledge in molecular plant pathology as well as phenotyping and planning of large-scale field trials is meritorious. Also, experience working in R, Python and bash is meritorious. Ability and motivation to learn new methodologies and techniques are meritorious.
