Dalarna University welcomes applications for the position of research leader, with overall responsibility for the University's research profile Complex systems - microdata analysis.

Employment Profile
The position will comprise 70-100%, including time for individual research. At Dalarna University such a position is a secondment, but permanent employment within an individual's own academic field will be offered to a successful external applicant who does not have a position at Dalarna University. The role as research leader is expected to commence 2016-07-01 and is time limited to 2018-12-31; the exact starting date is negotiable. A probationary period of employment will be applied. The position is based in our Borlänge Campus.

Academic Field
Within the multidisciplinary research profile Complex systems and microdata analysis, there is a focus on the study in complex processes within industry and the built environment. Areas of applied research of particular interest to both the University and the local region are transport, tourism, retail and industry. Much of the research base of the university is performed in conjunction with industry and other stakeholders in society. The core goal of the research profile is to create and adapt analytical tools and methods for complex processes through development of advanced microdata analysis methods. Microdata analysis is a multifaceted research field involving collection, modelling, summarizing and interpreting large sets of data, together with underlying algorithms, methods and technologies. Within the framework for the profile's research a broad methodological framework is adopted, involving both technological and social science perspectives and quantitative and qualitative research methods.

The profile currently consists of about 15 senior researchers, 20 researchers with a PhD and 20 PhD students, which 10 are registered for PhD study at Dalarna University, which has held the right to award the degree of PhD in the field of microdata analysis since 2012. A central theme in the research education is for the PhD students to acquire knowledge and understanding for the entire microdata analysis chain from data collection to decision making, including issues such as data quality, data manipulation and analysis methods. Three to four PhD students are recruited annually to research education and are seen as an integral part of the research profile.

Job Description
The research leader is expected to play a key role in the management and development of the research profile Complex systems and microdata analysis at Dalarna University. The role involves taking overall strategic and economic responsibility for the development of a dynamic research environment which strives for excellence. This include an overall responsibility for moniotoring and following up applications for research funding and publication. The position requires a close cooperation with managers of undergraduate education.

Qualifications
The successful applicant will be an internationally acknowledged researcher at the professorial level within either a technical or social science field. Of particular relevance is that the candidate has a research orientation towards solving real-life problems within the domain of the profile. Experience of multidisciplinary work, good judgement, strong cooperation and communication skills, experience of leading externally financed research projects and documented experience of managing development are all of merit for the position.

As a leader you should have the capacity for visionary and strategic oversight. You should be visible, responsive and engaged in the task of leadership. It is important that you have drive and together with co-employees can create a creative and expansive environment where everyone feels that they have an important role to play.

The selection process will first identify those candidates qualified for appointment as a professor. The final selection will be based on scientific and pedagogic skills and achievements and demonstrated leadership skills within research and development and the building up of a research environment.
