Swerea MEFOS i Luleå är ett forskningsinstitut för nordisk stål- och metallindustri. Vi har ca 85 medarbetare som arbetar med industrinära forskning, bland annat inom processmetallurgi, processintegration, värmning, bearbetning samt miljö- och energiteknik. Swerim member companies and customers are mainly the Nordic steel and metal industry. Nonetheless, our institute has a large network with many international contacts. Our researchers are driven by the will to change and create a more sustainable world. Lower energy consumption, better resources utilization and less environmental impact are issues that we engage as well as the interests of industry and society which give us exciting challenges every day.

Swerim carries out assignments that span throughout all the metallurgical manufacturing industry, especially in materials and resource efficiency projects. Data analysis is a key ability to enable our industry development and take advantage of the potential of digitization.

We are looking for additional researchers who want to join and lead international development together with industry. Our activities consist of national and international projects and assignments.

Role Description / Description
As a researcher, you coordinate and lead research projects in close cooperation with our industrial partners in advanced research environments. You cooperate with researchers and research groups within Swerim as well as with other research groups nationally and internationally. The work is very varied and independent, which may mean that assignments and work areas can change over time.

Your main tasks are:
• Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations of metallurgical processes with especial focus on Continuous Casing of Steel
• Application of Multiphase and multiscale models for mixtures metal-gas including inert gases injection in metallurgical processes
• Development of mathematical optimization of casting systems and strategies for resource efficiency optimization with special focus on flow control.
• Project management
• Sustainability and circular economics
• Experimental operations on pilot scale and industrial scale
• Contact with customers and other stakeholders

Qualifications
You hold a PhD with focus on metallurgy, energy engineering, engineering physics, regulation technology or equivalent. It is a prerequisite that you have disputed your Degree Thesis and published research findings in areas that are relevant to the job description.
We would like to see applicants who have industrial experience in the relevant field of work. Furthermore, we would like to see applicants who have experience in formulating mission and research projects.

As a person, you have the ability to drive work independently as well as to collaborate closely with colleagues in teams. We seek individuals who are responsive to their environment and work with foresight on business grounds. You have high integrity and scientific ethics that generates good results both in research and in your various assignments. Furthermore, you are responsible, can structure and prioritize work efficiently and have a very good ability to communicate in spoken and written terms in English.

The position is permanent and full-time employment with location in Luleå. Travel is part of the job description and it is an advantage to have a driving license.
