KCTT is a core facility at Karolinska Institutet focusing on the production, cryopreservation and breeding of genetically modified mice. The cryopreservation unit is a node in the EMMA (European Mouse Mutant Archive) network linking to corresponding networks in Asia and North America to provide repositories for worldwide initiatives to produce and characterize each and every gene in the mouse genome.

In the near future, the cryobank on KI may expand a branch to host a tissue bank. This function may be regional serving the scientific community at KI only or a concerted European effort similar to that holding the EMMA.

Duties
The successful candidate will work with IVF and freezing of mouse embryos/sperm and transfer of pre-implantation embryos into recipient mice. In addition, the candidate will also be responsible for the screening of the produced/re-derived mice including DNA preparation and PCR.

It is an advantage also to have good knowledge in mouse genetics and molecular biology.

Further techniques in animal research like small animal surgery, preparation of organs and tissues, perfusion of mice, tissue staining and embedding, handling of pre-implantation embryos and skills in cell culture are crucial.
