Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC) is an internationally recognized centre in experimental plant biology and forest biotechnology. It also serves as an innovation platform for forest industries. UPSC hosts 4 National excellence centres and is leading the Swedish conifer genome sequencing. It consists of two departments, the Department of Plant Physiology, Umeå University and the Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology from the Swedish Agricultural University. A total of about 180 persons from 35 countries are working here of which about 30 are group leaders.
Work content: In the frame of a newly initiated spruce genome program that aims to sequence the largest known tree genome, we seek a research engineer in plant molecular biology. The applicant is expected to work in the functional genomics sub-project. This sub-project involves cloning and downstream analysis of important candidate genes regulating key traits e. g. wood quality, phenology and biomass production in spruce. The applicant might also work with spruce somatic embryogenesis and transformation. The project involves close interactions with bioinformaticians
Qualifications: The successful candidate should have a master or PhD degree in plant molecular biology or similar. The applicant should have experience in routine molecular biology techniques e. g. cloning, RNA isolation, RT-PCR etc. Background and experience of working with transgenic plants and tissue culture techniques is desirable. The applicant should be able to work in a team.
Form of employment: Temporary employment, The position is up to 2 years, with possibility för extension.
