Your future work assignments
For this position we are looking for a candidate with an extensive experience of working with chickens, collecting physiological and behavioural samples and phenotypes, as well as dissection. The position will involve multiple field seasons in Hawaii and Bermuda.
The project itself has recently been funded by an ERC consolidator grant and is aiming to use a series of different populations of feralised chickens (domestic birds that have escaped and are now living wild throughout the Hawaiian Island chain) to map the genes and polymorphisms underlying their rapid responses to newly imposed selective forces. Multiple tools will be used, both based on field collections and a laboratory population of hybrid wild x domestic chickens that are maintained in Linköping.
Your qualifications
We are looking for someone who has a Master's or an equivalent degree from a foreign university. The candidate must have experience of working with chickens or other avian species. This work should include behavioural and physiological testing, as well as animal handling and dissection.
Field experience is also valuable. Laboratory skills, including DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR and the like are also required. Knowledge of cell work (culture, lipotransfection, etc) is beneficial, as is some experience of lab management (ordering materials, equipment maintenance, etc).
