Research Engineer GTC - Aerodynamic Design
We are looking for a Research Engineer in the area of Aerodynamic Design to help us develop the new technologies and solutions needed for the next generation of aeroengines. You will contribute and be responsible for the aerodynamic design of both fans and propellers as well as components in the engine core flow-path. You will also support different projects in the area of aerodynamics and help us in the development of our design and analysis methods.

Candidate Profile
You are an engineer with a solid background in fluid mechanics and with a strong interest in working in technology development in Aerospace. Either recently graduated from university or with a few years work experience in industry.
In order to be successful in this role, you should be someone who thrives in ambiguity and is able to drive his or her own projects to completion.
Key Responsibilities
Aerodesign of fans, propellers and compressors, and structural components in the core flow-path.
Development of new technology/solutions aiming to reduce the environmental impact of flight.
Development of design and analysis methods, and know-how in aerodynamic design of fans, propellers and components in the engine flow-path.
Design of components for rig tests and engine demonstrators.
Validation of method and component design through testing. This includes instrumentation definition, test support and data analysis.
Represent the company in collaborative research projects with academic and/or industrial partners.
Support technology development in other areas with aerodynamic expertise
Assure proper documentation of technical results and present the results internally and externally
Support research in collaboration with universities including supervision of internships and Master's projects
Contribute to the development of GKN as a 'Great Place to Work', aligned with the core principles - safe, innovative, open & honest, care & respect, and ownership

Qualifications / Skills / Experience
Qualifications
Master's degree in Aeronautics, Fluid Mechanics or similar

Skills and experience
Solid background in fluid mechanics
Very good understanding of jet engines
Experience in CFD analysis using commercial tools
Good programming skills. For calculations, tasks automation, data processing and visualization.
Good general engineering/technology knowledge base
Detail oriented and self-motivated
Strong written and verbal communication skills
You are proficient in English, which is GKN's business language

Desirable
Experience in aero-design and verification analysis of jet engine components using CFD
Experience in aero-design of turbomachinery
Experience in technology development and the TRL scale.
Working experience in the aerospace industry

Type of employment: Permanent full-time
Place of employment and travel requirements: This position is based in Sweden, as such, the applicant should be able to gain the right to live and work in Sweden. Travel to other locations within Sweden as well as EU and occasionally to UK is expected.
Date for employment: To be agreed. Target: July 1st, 2022
