Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world's top 100 universities. The University has 40 000 students and 7 600 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-ray light. As a national laboratory, MAX IV is operated in agreement with governmental regulations, and in compliance with major funders such as the Swedish Research Council (VR) and the Wallenberg Foundation. 250 people are currently employed at MAX IV Laboratory, and 16 beamlines are funded. The facility is in a ramp-up phase with 3 beamlines now receiving users and 13 more scheduled to be commissioned and built to receive users within the next few years. The facility is dimensioned for 25-28 beamlines.

Currently 13 beamlines are funded and under construction at the MAX IV laboratory.

In order to strengthen the team working with one of these - the FinEstBeAMS beam line for PEPICO (photoelectron photoion mass spectroscopy), XPS (x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) and photoluminescence - we are now seeking to hire a research engineer with a background and interest in soft X-ray synchrotron radiation based experimental techniques and instrumentation.

The FinEstBeAMS beam line is currently in the early stage of user operation at the 1.5 GeV storage ring of the MAX IV facility. The beamline receives the first regular external users in April 2019.

Job description

The candidate will be part of the team responsible for further development and operation of the FinEstBeAMS beamline at the MAX IV Laboratory. The candidate will be responsible for coordinating and conducting practical work related to the installation and operation of the beamline and the experimental end stations as well as supporting equipment.

Due to the nature of the equipment the candidate will be expected to work with all safety aspects of the instrumentation in use. As a part of his/her tasks the candidate will be expected to supervise infrastructure installations at the beam line.

The candidate will participate in the commissioning of the beamline including the experimental end stations and spectrometers and maintain its equipment to the highest standard. The candidate shall also provide user support at the beamline.
