Your team
The macromolecular crystallography (MX) group is responsible for the two beamlines BioMAX and MicroMAX and the fragment screening facility FragMAX.

FragMAX supports academic and industrial projects, and includes automated workflows, and a comprehensive data management system. FragMAX is working towards harnessing the unique opportunities available at MAX IV and in the wider Swedish research landscape.

Would you like to work at one of the brightest lightsources in the world?

MAX IV is looking for a Research Engineer for the FragMAX facility to support our growing academic and industrial user program. This is a hands-on, lab-based position for a service-oriented protein crystallographer with an interest in structure-based drug development and lab automation. While user support and lab management will be the focus of the post, there is also the opportunity to contribute and shape ongoing research collaborations. This is an exciting possibility for an enthusiastic scientist who seeks a long-term perspective and wants to work at the intersection of basic research and applied science.

Your main work tasks will be

- You will support academic and industrial users during the planning, execution, and analysis of crystallographic screening campaigns and other protein-ligand studies
- You will be responsible for laboratory management and the management of resources
- You will support unattended data collection at the BioMAX beamline
- You will be involved in further development of the platform
- You will have the possibility of participating in research projects that are performed in collaboration with groups from academia and industry
- You will occasionally help with general user support at the BioMAX beamline.

To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications

- A PhD in structural biology, protein biochemistry, biophysics, chemical biology, or a related field
- Demonstrated expertise in protein crystallization, specifically in the preparation of complexes between proteins and small-molecule ligands
- Experience in X-ray diffraction data collection at synchrotron radiation facilities
- Demonstrated expertise in X-ray data processing and structure determination, refinement and PDB deposition
- Excellent command of English (both spoken and written).

Below are seen as merits

- Experience in crystallographic fragment screening
- Experience in biophysical methods such as NMR, SPR, or ITC
- Experience in structure-based compound design
- Use of robotics or automation
- Programming skills.

As a person you are able to work and solve problems independently. A team player committed to the goals of the team. You are pro-active and self-motivated with a service-oriented mindset. In this position you will work with a wide range of people so you have the ability to communicate effectively (both spoken and written) at a variety of levels of technical knowledge.
