Pulp and Performance Chemicals is a business unit within AkzoNobel. We are a leading global force in pulp bleaching technologies, paper chemicals, colloidal silica and expandable microspheres. Our 2,400 employees serve the pulp and paper and other industries in 35 countries.

Your role would be to support the development of AkzoNobel Pulp and Performance Chemicals’ production and business organizations by supplying Chemical Engineering expertise and process modeling competence to research projects and sustainability work.

We have an immediate opening for an individual who can fulfil the following role as a Research Engineer at the Process RD&I department in Bohus. This is a temporary position ending October 2015.

The Process RD&I department is an integrated part of the global sBU Bleaching Chemicals and works closely with Operations and Global Technology. The Process RD&I department role is to identify sustainable solutions, develop existing processes and ensure successful implementation of projects. A significant role for Process RD&I is also to support the plants in their strive for operational excellence and if needed trouble shooting.

The position is focused on modeling, chemical engineering and process design - this mainly means office work, but may involve working in a laboratory or factory environment as well.

The main tasks and responsibilities are:

To provide chemical engineering and mathematical modeling expertise to the sBU’s functions.

Carry out chemical engineering calculations and develop mathematical models to support the organisation’s work.

If necessary, participate in/or lead programs, projects and other activities within Process RD&I and support projects with technical expertise and research methodology.

Prepare technical basis for commercial decision and act as expert in defined area within BU Pulp and Performance Chemicals and AkzoNobel.

Administer the BU’s licenses for, and arrange installation of, the softwares Matlab and Comsol Multiphysics, to ensure that the license agreements are met.

Develop and maintain an internal and external network. Actively follow the technical/scientific development within the field through contacts with universities and institutes to aquire new knowledge, new ideas and identify threats.

Requirements

• Master of Science in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
• Excellent skills in mathematical modelling of chemical engineering processes.
• Preferrably, good knowledge of production processes for inorganic chemicals.
• Excellent skills in documentation and presentation of results.
• Excellent skills in planning, leading and evaluating experimental work.
