Information about the department and the division
The Division of Materials and Manufacture at the Department of Industrial and Materials Science (IMS) conducts research and teaching in the areas of materials science and manufacturing technology. The activities range from materials design and coating development, to additive manufacturing and the development of cutting processes. The work is mainly experimental and includes advanced microscopy and surface technology with links to theory. The division is responsible for the mechanical workshop and coordinates its experimental activities with the division of Engineering Materials, whose activities are focused on mechanical testing and polymer processing. The two divisions share the need for advanced experimental support when it comes to computers and equipment.
Job description
To support our Masters and PhD students, as well as the postdocs working in our laboratory, we need a research engineer who is familiar with instruments like ours and can help in maintenance and operational support. The tasks also include assisting in invoicing external users, maintaining contact with the service organization of the instrument suppliers (maintenance of the instruments), and purchase of consumables and electronic devices (computers). You need to know the work environment laws in the work you do and make sure that we comply with it in the areas you will work with.
Contract terms
Full time permanent employment.
Qualifications
As we have support in handling the advanced characterization equipment, we need a research engineer who is able to check equipment in case of failures and either fix problems directly or contact the service organization of the supplier. We like you to be able to fix electrical and basic mechanical problems and assist in computer issues. Hence, you should have an university education, or equivalent, which enables you to work with electrics/electric installation/digital electronics. Knowledge in areas such as mechanics/compressed air/cooling/gases is wanted and a merit.
We are looking for a problem solver. As many problems occur unexpected, you have to be able to step in and help out immediately. Hence, we cannot promise much of a scheduled working day. On the other hand, we can guarantee a variety of tasks and very grateful students/researchers when you can give them a hand.
As the department has many students/researchers from other countries, the ability to communicate in both English and Swedish is required. Experience of working with materials science topics is an advantage in order to understand the problems and to be able to discuss them with the students/researchers.
