The Performance Testing Department is a function responsible for evaluating cutting tool materials by metal cutting and analysing tool wear. The department will now expand its activities to application development with emphasis on work material. With the new responsibility in mind we are now hiring an engineer that will develop further understanding on the influence of workmaterial on cutting tool behaviour.
Key performance areas
As a Research Engineer at Sandvik Tooling you will lead or take part in projects within Materials Research to develop new technology and products to ensure that Sandvik Tooling can maintain their reputation for high quality products and market leader status.
• Plan testing trials, develop new testing methods and perform wear studies;
• Participate in product development projects and research projects for cutting materials.
Participate/manage application development projects aimed characterisation of work material connected to the Die and Mould, Aerospace and Automotive Industry.
Development plan
In the first phase, you will work in an ongoing development project, learning and performing our test methods. After this first period you will gradually take responsibility for new application development projects.
Your profile
Ideally you will have previous application experience, e.g. as production engineer or tool specialist, within machining of either Aerospace, Die and Mould or Automotive related materials. You have an MSc or equivalent, ideally in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science.
To achieve the expected results in this role the ideal candidate will be able to display a genuine technical interest, be able to communicate principles and co-operate on all levels of the company, have good analytical and organisational skills and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the latest advances in this area. This will be supported by excellent English language skills.
