Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we're expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we're on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars' journey into the future.
What's in it for you?
We are now looking for a Research Data Manager within the area of vehicle safety to join Safety Centre at Volvo Cars Headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden.
In this role, your main responsibility will be to keep an overview of data needs, investigate relevant sources and securing sufficient data quality by developing our data collection and storage methods.
At Volvo Cars Safety Centre, 170 highly skilled professionals strive every day to make the world a safer place for car drivers and everyone else on the road. We are proud of our track record including numerous world's firsts, all based on real world research and knowledge: exemplified by the safety belt (1959), SIPS (1991), WHIPS (1998), City Safety (2008), Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto brake (2010), and Run off Road protection (2015).
The future challenges and opportunities are exciting and through advanced technology and research we are developing safety with regards to areas like injury prevention, collision avoidance and durability. To drive and accelerate this progress, we are depending on high quality empirical data.
What you'll do
On a daily basis, you will have the responsibility to keep an overview of the data need, create long-term archiving and sharing strategies and to maintain and update the processes for the day-to-day collection and maintenance of empirical data. You will also play an active role in the team's core activity which is to analyze e.g. accident and naturalistic data to develop requirements for next generation ADAS/AD functionality, Injury Prevention and vehicle durability.
You and your skills
You have a master's level degree or higher within a relevant field. You are also experienced in handling large data sets including data collection/management methods and data quality measures. Familiarity with accident databases like Fatality Analysis Report System (FARS), the Swedish Traffic Accident Data Acquisition (STRADA) or German In-Depth Accident Study (GIDAS) is a merit plus knowledge of Naturalistic Driving datasets is expected.
On a personal level, you first and foremost share our genuine interest in traffic and vehicle safety. You have great analytic skills and a talent for creating synthesis-based insights. Also, you have the pedagogical abilities and engagement needed to present and explain these insights to an audience who might not know your area very well, and doing it in such a way that they can easily apply what you have learned within their areas of expertise. You have a collaborative mindset and believe that teamwork is a stronger driver of results than solo acts. You are research focused and motivated, but can still keep a customer focus, in the sense that research at Volvo Cars in the end is intended to create safer and better products and therefore has to support product development in the way it is performed.
