Welcome to Linnaeus University! A place for knowledge, ideas and development. For growth potential and a belief in the future. In Småland and in the world.

The condensed-matter group ( http://lnu.se/cmp ) in the Department of Physics and Electrical Engineering at Linnaeus University invites applications for a research assistant (Forskarassistent) in theoretical condensed matter physics.

Context of position

We are looking for a condensed matter theorist with interests and expertise in the topological phases of novel Dirac materials. The main purpose of this position is to develop atomistic and first-principles methods to study topological insulator nanostructures, including their magnetic and transport properties, their spin dynamics and many-body effects in their electronic structure. A documented background encompassing expertise in both many-body physics and computational methods is a strong asset. Approximately 25% of the time is dedicated to teaching and student supervision at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Basis of assessment The eligibility requirement is a Ph.D. in condensed matter theory or the equivalent. The applicant must have completed his /her Ph.D. studies no more than seven years previous the application deadline. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential.

Other grounds of assessment

• Documented background and experience in the proposed research area (see above) are advantageous
• Demonstrated ability to conduct research within the described area.
• Interpersonal skills and flexibility are of great importance since the work is done in a research group.

The position is initially limited to two years full time with the possibility of a renewal for two more years. Starting date for the position is preferably spring of 2016. The position is located in Kalmar.

The application (in English) should contain a CV (with telephone and e-mail), documentation of exams and grades, a description of personal motivation and experiences relevant to the research area and any other documentation that the applicant would like to present. The candidates should provide contact details (including telephone number and e-mail address) of two reference persons. The applicants are also requested to submit with their application a proposed research plan within the current area of research. Candidates with background in research in theoretical condensed matter physics are encouraged to apply.

Applications should arrive no later than 15 January 2016.
