The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) is hiring a talented and motivated Research Assistant to join the Climate Change and Risk Programme, starting as soon as possible.

The position
SIPRI's work on climate change and risk provides reliable insights on how climate-related security risks evolve and how they are interlinked and interact with different social, political and economic processes. SIPRI researchers also analyse how different policy organizations are responding to these risks and provide advice on conflict-sensitive adaptation, mitigation strategies and how international efforts for sustaining peace can be achieved. The Programme also looks closely at institutional responses in organizations such as the African Union, the European Union and the United Nations.

The Climate Change and Risk Programme, is now looking for a Research Assistant to work collaboratively with the programme director and the climate change and risk programme, assisting in various aspects of the programme's research and operational activities. This includes supporting research projects, conducting data collection and analysis, contributing to publications and reports, and participating in the preparation and conducting of relevant meetings and presentations. Special focus will be on work related to the UN Security Council and the production of climate peace and security factsheets.

Your main responsibilities and tasks as Research Assistant would be

• Assist with research projects and tasks related to climate, peace and security.
• Conduct literature reviews and data collection on climate change impacts and mitigation strategies.
• Support day-to-day operations of the programme and attend relevant meetings and presentations.
• Help prepare reports, policy briefs, and other publications, including factsheets



Qualifications
The person we are looking for should have familiarity with the climate, peace and security agenda as well as peacebuilding, conflict, and development.

• MA degree focused on peace and conflict research, human security, development studies, political science, international relations or similar.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Proactive and self-motivated.
• Experience working with UN agencies is an ad



Contract period

Starting as soon as possible, the contract period will initially last for 2 years with the possibility of extension. The post is full-time. The post requires that the candidate becomes a resident in Stockholm, Sweden when employment starts.

The salary package will be negotiated individually.
