The Department of Soil & Environment is a leading center for soil science, nationally and internationally. We conduct research, environmental monitoring & assessment and higher education for sustainable soil management in agricultural, forest and urban environments. Outcomes are aligned to and contribute towards national and international strategies on food security, national environmental objectives and climate reporting as well as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The majority of the department's activities are located in the Soil-Water-Environment center at the SLU Ultuna campus in Uppsala with one research group situated in Skara.

Duties:
In the team of Agrciutural Water Management at Dpertment fo Soil and Environment , we conduct research, and eductaion on water management in agricutural soils, for climate resilience, food production and sustainable environment. This position will contribute on the topic of climate change and potential implications on soil properties, affecting ecosystems functions related to water transport in fields and landscapes. The candidate will develop and analyse existing data related to two tasks:

• Develop baseline understanding of agricultural soils and climate: Digitise and analyse historical agricultural soil temperature data
• Develop response in water quality due to seasonal variation of soil temperature: Analyse soil temperature and water quality response data för Röbäcksdalen

The research assistant will work in close collaboration with a team of researchers to support in day to day tasks.

Qualifications:
Required:

• MSc Engineering in Soil, Water and Environment, soil science, water management agriculture , environmental engineering/sciences , geology, hydrology or equivalent.
• Minimum basic soil science course(s) or equivalent
• Familiar with standard software (Excel Word etc)
• English fluent in spoken and written

Advantage :

• Experience in water quality data analysis is an advantage
• Knowledge (beginners) in eg digitalisation , GIS or similar
• Exeprience of (beginners)statistics and-or programming (R , Matlob , other)
• Understanding of agriculture, soils , and water management in temperate -boreal systems
• Driving licence
• Speaking and writing Swedish

Form of employment:
Temporary employment, 6 months, with possible extension.
