About the position
Monitoring of functional biodiversity groups such as pollinators is crucial for understanding the role and status regarding abundance of various species in delivering valuable pollination services for crops and ecosystems.
Current advancements in machine vision and machine learning, have drastically improved potential of monitoring capabilities. The Department of Energy and Technology is looking for a research assistant to work on a project for pollinator monitoring using artificial intelligence and digitalization techniques.
Your profile
We are looking for a motivated person with experience regarding digitalization in agriculture and a passion for agricultural research. The role involves collection of drone imagery from agricultural fields and developing machine learning models for object detection and classification.
Required:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in agricultural engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• Solid programming skills (e.g. Python, OpenCV and/or MATLAB).
• Good English language skills, both written and spoken.
• Willingness to work in an agricultural context and travel to fields for insect image data collection.
Meriting:
• Demonstrated ability and interest to work independently and collaborate with agricultural scientists.
• Documented experience in relevant research methodologies (AI and machine vision).
• Experience in machine vision and the application of optical sensors (e.g., digital imaging using drones).
