at the Department of Environmental Science and Analytical Chemistry. Closing date: 18 October 2018.

The Department of Environmental Science and Analytical Chemistry (ACES) is one of the biggest departments at the Faculty of Science. The department is divided into five units with more than 200 researchers, teachers, doctoral students and technical/administrative staff. Research and teaching focuses on Contaminant Chemistry, Exposure & Effects, Atmospheric Science, Biogeochemistry and Analytical Chemistry. As an employee at ACES you will be part of a dynamic environment with research in leading research areas and with a strong international profile.

The Contaminant Chemistry Unit consists of 33 permanent staff and graduate students and research is focused on the discovery of new contaminants, understanding the chemical, physical and biological pathways that contaminants follow, and the development of novel tools and techniques.

Main responsibilities
The main responsibility of the candidate is to help Visiting Professor, Dr. Derek Muir, with interpretation of new, unpublished data and preparation of manuscripts on temporal and spatial trends of perfluorinated alkyl substances in fish and seals in the Arctic.

Other responsibilities will include:

• Assist with preparation of a Special Issue of the journal Emerging Contaminants on Chemicals of Emerging Concern in the Arctic.
• Assist with the organization of an international workshop on the influence of climate and persistent organic contaminants to be held in April or May 2019 in Stockholm.
• Other various duties within the unit.

Qualification requirements
We are looking for someone with at least a master's degree in environmental chemistry. Knowledge of the literature on perfluorinated alkyl substances and experience with environmental fate modelling would be major assets. Other requirements are basic statistical knowledge, familiarity with laboratory and instrumental skills for persistent organic pollutants, and proficiency in written and spoken English. We are looking for someone with good social skills and who is service-oriented.
