In vivo Respiratory Disease Mechanism Models

The Role
The work will be to conduct respiratory disease mechanism model science, within a team in the Respiratory and Inflammation Bioscience Department, in vivo Pharmacology Section, with particular focus on Tobacco Smoke Models and related technology. The person will be expected to lead, our capability to model ?exacerbations? in Respiratory disease. The Senior Research Scientist will be lab-based, demonstrate expertise in their own area, propose experimental strategies, interpret and report experimental data, troubleshoot problems to support drug discovery projects. Furthermore, design and develop disease-relevant in vivo models and biomarkers in close collaboration with Translational Science.
The role requires ability to apply understanding of pharmacology, physiology or immunology to support drug project progression. To work independently to contribute to the design and analysis of experimental procedures by incorporating the views of others and to maintain an awareness of current developments in the literature..
Requirements
We are looking for a scientist with a PhD or equivalent background with extensive experience of respiratory animal models. Experience in other related areas (such as Inflammation/Immunology) is also valuable. Hands-on experience in Respiratory Disease mechanism models is needed.
Experience and specialisation in vivo techniques with hands-on experience and expertise in respiratory disease mechanism models, preferably tobacco smoke models and exacerbations models. Excellent scientific laboratory skills and in depth knowledge of practical scientific issues are needed. Experience of delivering and understanding of respiratory disease mechanism model data. Knowledge of technologies, including tobacco smoking, used to support respiratory disease mechanism in vivo models.
Good knowledge of statistical methods and of QA/QC procedures.
Fluency in spoken and written English.
